Discover Aosta’s wonders
Situated in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, Aosta is a paradise for skiers. The capital of the Aosta Valley, moreover, is also perfect for a day trip out, because it's jam-packed with history, culture and good food.
In the city, you'll also see several signs of the passage of the Romans, such as the Arch of Augustus, Porta Pretoria and the Roman Theatre.
Another must-see sight is the Cathedral, an ancient building with two magnificent Romanesque style bell towers.
Roman Theatre
Before leaving Aosta, make sure you have visited the Roman Theatre. This ancient building designed at the end of Augustus' time is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
Currently, the only visible facade is 22 meters high and is featured by buttresses, arches and hemicycle steps (cavea).
As soon as it was built, the theatre could hold from three thousand to four thousand spectators and had a fixed roof.
